Eight Senate Democrats stand in the way of stimulus checks for illegal aliens

Biden & Pelosi receiving pushback from Senate Democrats on illegal immigration

People who are in the country illegally were not eligible for the $1,200 stimulus check (CARES ACT) or the more recent $600 stimulus check (SPENDING BILL). Though some legal non-citizens were eligible for these checks. Many websites have falsely claimed that illegal aliens are eligible for the $600 check. This is not true. While Pelosi tried to make them eligible, this was stripped out of the bill.

Previous attempts to make illegal aliens eligible for these check were quickly shot down in the US Senate. With a new Democrat majority in the Senate, US President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sought to make illegal aliens eligible for stimulus checks, a dangerous precedent that would reward people for breaking the US laws.

As debate rages over the next stimulus bill. Two Republicans, Senators Todd Young and Tom Cotton introduced an amendment to the Senate/House Concurrent Resolution on the the Fiscal Year 2021 Budget. The amendment allows the Senate Committee on the Budget to limit or prevent illegal immigrants from receiving Economic Impact Payments or other similar direct, tax-based temporary financial assistance.

It passed 58-42. All 50 Republicans voted yea, and eight Democrats voted yea.

Most importantly, Senator Debbie Stabenow, who is a Democrat on the Senate Committee on the Budget voted no. This means that the members of the budget committee voted 12 to 10 in favor of the amendment.

What this means is that House Democrats under Pelosi can still try to give stimulus checks to illegal aliens, but it is not likely to come to fruition.

The eight Democrats who voted for the amendment:

  • Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire
  • Sen. John Hickenlooper of Colorado
  • Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona
  • Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia
  • Sen. Gary Peters of Michigan
  • Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona
  • Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan
  • Sen. Jon Tester of Montana
