Twelve congressmen are sponsoring bill to free “medically vulnerable” inmates

Should the obese be released from jails and prisons?

The is not a hoax. This is not satire. This is a thing that is actually happening.

A few months ago, US Congressman Rashida Tlaib introduced H.R.7281 – Dismantle Mass Incarceration For Public Health Act of 2020.

The bill calls for a wide range of “medically vulnerable” inmates to be released from state prisons, local jails, ICE facilities, and juvenile detention facilities.

People who would be released include, illegal aliens awaiting deportation, those awaiting trial, those who were re-incarcerated for parole/probation violations, and those who have less than 180 days left in a jail sentence or 18 months left in a prison sentence.

The list of what qualifies as “medically vulnerable” would potentially make a majority of all people eligible. The supposed reasoning for the bill is the “COVID-19 national emergency.”

Anyone with the following alleged conditions would qualify; Obesity, Moderate or Severe Asthma, Kidney Disease, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Cancer, Lung disease, Immunocompromised, Terminally Ill, Mentally Ill, Disabled, Pregnant, or a Primary Caregiver of Another Person.

Since Tlaib introduced this bill, twelve other Congressmen have signed on as co-sponsors.
